0-2 in the 60th.
Let me be the first to utter the obligatory "well, now we can concentrate on the league"

Funny bit of text from the beebs live text commentary. bwahahahahahaha
Ellis Harrison hares after a ball forward but he doesn't have the legs as Matteo Guendouzi (or was it David Luiz?) is perfectly placed to mop up. With his feet.

Not disgraced and a good first half, resting some of the team. Fans sounded really good throughout and out-sung the library fans even at 2-0 down. Onwards to promotion

Best of both worlds, play Whatmough at CB, Bolton at RB. If Whatmough isn't fully fit for 90 mins, move Bolton to CB and bring back McCrorie. Simples

Re: Arsenal game Monday
I thought everyone played well last night.
We dropped deeper in the second half and that caused our issues. I think Evans should have come off earlier as he was knackered.
They all played well and worked hard, few days without a game now so players and fans alike can have a bit of a break before we go again.
A performance like last night, despite the result can lift and galvanise the fans who seem to have less belief in this team than the team do in themselves - let's win our next two and get right in the mix.

Re: Arsenal game Monday
My five eighths: Bass enhanced his reputation and his kicking was again impressive. Harness had a very good first half an hour showing good skills in what looked like an inside right position. Evans should have got a headed chance on target in that first impressive 20 mins of ours but otherwise showed great energy and pace. Burgess was simply magnificent - his game seems to have gone up a level this season. Close was anonymous, we missed Naylor in midfield, Seddon's delivery was disappointingly poor for once. Bolton looked relatively comfortable in central defence, happier than he looks at full back. McCrorie still doesn't look like a full back defensively and had little chance to get forward.
Did we sit back too far in second half allowing Arsenal unchallenged possession or should we have pushed up and taken a higher line?
On another theme I was very disappointed to read in The Times today (Henry Winter) taking issue with the content of some of our singing and repeating verbatim some of the foul language. Does he do that in his reports from other grounds, I think not.

Henry Winter is a Pompey fan. Has been for years, certainly in the 1990s. He would definitely know what's normal for Fratton Park. I think he got married at FP, or had his stag night at FP, something like that.

I’m a Pompey fan. And I don’t like foul language in chants. Humour and mickey taking is fine but we cross the line sometimes.
And I hope nobody here condones this:

The chant was, is and always has been "You're going home in a Pompey ambulance". Am I not right?

Re: Arsenal game Monday
You're absolutely right Locky and that was what was sung on Monday. I have to say that I felt uncomfortable with that at the time. I don't like any player to be injured out of a match and I don't think our fans should have aimed that chant at him. In years gone by the chant was aimed at the away fans, not the players. (Although I do recall it being aimed at a referee once - Barry someone or other, who was a hairdresser from somewhere or other. He had a stinker of a match, including playing extra time until the other team equalised. I was OK with that.)
Yet again the Mail demonstrates that hardly anything it prints is actually true. I don't understand why anyone reads it let, let alone buys it.

Have you read the comments under that Daily Fail article ? Some people's misconception of Pompey is incredible.
Everyone says David Beckham is not very intelligent. No-one says that Professor Stephen Hawking is a rubbish footballer!
Re: Arsenal game Monday
I've just remembered that McGeehan, who had a good match for us, was the last player to receive the Pompey ambulance chant (and there's f*** all wrong with him, as well) when he had a badly broken leg playing for Barnsley, I think. I wonder how he felt about it on Monday.

And the reason he got stick was because he had spent the first 20 minutes of the game trying to kick anything that moved and when he broke his leg he had flung himself into a challenge trying to "do" someone and came off worst. Nathan Jones was very scathing about our fans afterwards saying we "lacked class" .
